Lisa’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/lisas-recovery-s ... -toxicity/8. Swim. My tendons and muscles feel significantly better when I’m in the water, and for several hours after I finish swimming. Swimming in the ocean feels especially therapeutic. There are so many minerals and trace nutrients in the ocean, I surmise that they’re helpful for healing. Unfortunately, I don’t live near the sea, so I swim in a pool. I feel better when I do so.
9. Pilates. I started doing Pilates about 7 months post-floxing. Pilates strengthens the core, something that is generally important, and gently stretches muscles, tendons and ligaments, something that is particularly important for Floxies. I started slowly and gently and didn’t push my tendons, muscles or ligaments too much. I feel that gently stretching helped my tendons, muscles and ligaments to heal and return to (close to) their pre-floxing capacity. Take it easy though.
Elisa’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/elisas-story-rec ... -toxicity/– Physical therapy. I had ultrasound early – don’t know if that helped or not – and then at around 4 months I had myofascial release by a physical therapist that understood nerve issues. It helped A LOT. I highly recommend it when your body is ready.
– Everyone says this and I have to echo it. Be as active as you can. Start in tiny amounts. Move, work your way up. Exercise will help heal you.
Brien’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/brieans-recovery ... -toxicity/After about two months of being bedridden, Briean was able to get out of bed and begin to recover. Her recovery process included the following:
Physical Therapy. Briean described her Physical Therapy as “instrumental” to her healing.
1. Supplements. Glucosamine supplementation helped her significantly. She takes other supplements as well but doesn’t notice as much of a difference.
2. Changed diet. Briean cut gluten, dairy, alcohol, junk food and meat out of her diet. Because she has Celiac Disease, cutting gluten out of her diet was crucial for her healing.
3. Lots of rest. Briean slept a lot. Her body was able to recover while she was sleeping.
4. Moving as much as possible. Briean tried to be as active as possible. Her ability to be active improved as she continually tried.
5. Sunshine. Briean tried to sit outside whenever possible. Though her skin was very sensitive to the sun, being outside in fresh air and sunshine was therapeutic.
Sharon’s Recovery Story
https://floxiehope.com/sharons-recovery ... -toxicity/The thing that helped in my recovery the most was simply the passage of time. I also maintained a positive attitude and never stopped believing that I would heal. There were no magic pills or quick fixes. I didn’t wait around to get better – I just kept living my life, despite the pain. I worked with pain, cleaned my house in pain, did laundry in pain, played with my son in pain, etc. I kept pushing myself to get out of bed every morning, no matter how much it hurt. I really believe this is why I recovered. I refused to be a victim.
Jame’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/james-recovery-s ... -toxicity/A few other things that helped were: An absolute resolve never to give up, even when I was hospitalized. I also refused to stop working, to stop driving, even when I messed up my ankle. I limped around my warehouse like a gimp for weeks. I used cruise control on my car to avoid having to press the pedals too much. But I absolutely refused to let this thing ruin me. I woke up at 5 a.m. and put in 12 hour days at work. Fake it til you make it. I made it. An important decision I made was also to stop blaming FQ’s for everything wrong in my life. Yes, they screwed me up majorly, but I had to stop living in fear of everyday life, of antibiotics in food, of fluoride in water, of chemicals in shampoo, etc…
Laura’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/lauras-recovery- ... -toxicity/What has helped the most?
1. magnesium
2. good diet – mainly vegetarian now except when I trust sources of beef – no more chicken or turkey for me. I eat tuna, organic eggs, yogurt, milk, cheese with no problem.
I know that food with antibiotics will cause symptoms (used to think it might just be in my head). I was on a cruise a couple years ago and I was told that all the fish was wild caught. I ate a fish dinner and that night I had the muscle twitches in my legs and the burning feet and anxiety. I thought it was just the trip. The next day the Food Service Manager came to find me to let me know that all of the fish was farmed.
I am currently on a no sugar, gluten free, alcohol free, dairy free diet as a cleanse; I do this every once in awhile.
3. yoga (when I was ready)
4. exercise – walking and elyptical at the gym
At two years out I felt I was at about 75% recovered. I could do most everything I did before I was floxed. Cycles usually lasted 1-3 weeks with unknown cause. At four years out I felt I was 90% recovered and now at 7 years out I feel that I am 95% recovered. In fact, I had about 6 months with no symptoms whatsoever, except lingering shoulder tendonitis. But then, about a month ago I started a cycle of burning feet and tingling in my legs; it’s not that bad so I just ignore it. About 1 month ago had success doing light upper body weight again. I had tried several times during the past few years but always ended up with tendonitis.
I am hopeful that each of you will find some sort of recovery, and that many of you will find substantial recovery. It does take time. Don’t give up hope!
Jayne’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/jaynes-recovery- ... -toxicity/What worked for me:
1. Physical therapy. I had to start over a couple of times and I did have setbacks. But I kept going. Ultrasound therapy was the closest thing to a miracle for me. I could feel the difference in my tendons immediately.
2. REST. REST. REST. I hated hearing this. I was a runner. We don’t rest. But rest helped tremendously, just as it does when we have the flu. Sleep as much as you can and need to.
3. Custom orthotics and night braces from the podiatrist. Expensive but worth it. I still need insane amounts of arch support. I’m sorry that flats are popular now, because wearing them even to the mailbox would hurt. I still have to wear hiking or running shoes with lots of support much of the time. Cute shoes are generally not possible for me, though I do still wear my boots on occasion.
Crystal’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/crystal-recovery ... -toxicity/I stretch every single day, every part of my body. It is worth the extra time it takes me every morning. It has been so helpful, even if I have pain in an area, I stretch it, though gently.
Bill’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/bills-recovery-s ... e-effects/It should probably go without saying, but I avoided all exercise. Not that it was hard to avoid. I was in a lot of pain, pretty much constantly. Moving was not a temptation. All in all, when I wasn’t sleeping, I was resting and trying to avoid any kind of stress. It was not easy on the people around me.
Gen’s Story
https://floxiehope.com/gens-story-cipro ... -toxicity/The following things were helpful to me:
1. Physical therapy using myofacial release and water therapy. I have a PT who is in her 70’s and has styled her own form of PT based on holistic knowledge of the body. She got me in the water and used gentle myofacial techniques to help relieve the pain and encourage my body to heal. Even at her age, she had never seen anyone who had been floxed.
Ruth’s story
https://floxiehope.com/ruths-story-cipro-toxicity/*Most symptoms relieved by being physically active, aggravated by sedentary activities, especially those involving concentration such as reading or writing.
